Handwritten responses to the questions below, with command terms listed and annotated. There are several good reference sites for hurricane information that I gave out in class but will post in the Option Ecology page.
Describe the creature pictured and how these creatures are used/studied by scientists. Explain one other means of obtaining that ecological measurement and compare them ( see ref text on Ecol page or YOUR NOTES!). Suggest ways these these animals could be useful for helping countries develop biodiversity policies and state one unusual fact about them you learned by reading the study. State who the researchers were and where did they conduct their research. State the Genus and species of the creature pictured above. List and annotate the command terms used in this extra credit assignment. Right click on the image to open the hyperlink.Original handwritten answers due before Thanksgiving Break.
In light of changes that have occurred that might have a lot of discussions around it, in school and out, please remember that you are my students, that the focus on class will be on biology and class will be like it always has been. I value every one of you and the varied perspectives that you bring to school related and life related issues. I hope that in the transition period this mutual respect shines through. I also hope that all of you guys- aka y'all, know how much it means to me to call you my students. The SL overview exam will be rescheduled until after homecoming week. BUT the extra credit animal costume still applies so please put your energies into something creative. Come to school on Wednesday, Nerd Day, as an animal for Ecology and I will give you extra credit. Come past my room. If you forget I will be checking in with the 12th grade team of teachers. For Extra Extra credit come with a group of friends as a food chain and I will double the credit. You can come as Nerdy Animals but not fictional ones. ( Sorry the only one horned animal granted credit will be Narwhales not Unicorns). Have a great break and see you on Wed. Don't forget, there is the SL test, release, retest when you return. ( see how I snuck population measuring terms for a moving animal population into the reminder: capture/ test < mark< recapture. Good Luck with the costumes, check back and in the SL blog for more extra credit, and don't forget that General Documents will also have homework on population measuring and note cards for ecology.
Animals, actually cute animals to be specific, have a potential impact on you. Read the associated article by clicking on the image above and write a synopsis of what this research showed by answering the following command terms. Read the actual research paper below. Explain the research procedure used. Critique the procedure- does it prove its hypothesis and how could it be improved. How would you be able to substantiate that research (Topic 1) Identify your favorite 'cute' animal common name and also by Genus species,( Topic 5) Find an image for this animal, create a food web for this animal and state its social structure (Option neurobio -- animal behavior). Identify its reproductive strategy and explain the associated level of succession that this animal would best fit in.( Option G Ecology). List and annotate the command terms above. The image must reference where this image was located and any attribution ( who's image is it). This can be sent to me electronically by October 15 but you must verify with me in person that it has been received and has not been bounced by the aps filtering system). The full article is below. For more cute images of baby ferrets can be found on the National Black footed Ferret Conservation Center facebook page.
